Diversity at workplace – antidoted meritocracy.

Diversity at workplace – antidoted meritocracy.

A firm that actively employs a workforce made up of people with a variety of characteristics, including gender, religion, race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, education, and other traits, is referred to as diverse. Today, many businesses have made diversity a priority in their hiring and advancement processes. This has sparked a discussion about the idea that designing initiatives that favor (or disfavor) particular groups of people will weaken the meritocratic system inherent in the “no one gets special treatment” paradigm.

The meritocracy argument against diversity stems from the conviction that the current system reflects a true meritocracy and that underrepresented minorities and women are inherently less qualified and, hence, less worthy of success. But the paradox is right here. We are aware that a free market with more competition benefits consumers generally and that entry barriers to the labor force affect certain workers more than others. Therefore, if these barriers were removed or lowered, competition would rise and a real meritocracy would foster the best talent and raise the company’s worth overall.

As a diverse workforce brings a range of viewpoints and value systems to the table, it also improves the quality of problem resolution within organizations. Organizations are finding a definite benefit from having greater diversity in the highly competitive market of today, where many decisions are made based solely on intuition for a variety of reasons. When people from different cultures collaborate to achieve a common, motivating objective, productivity rises dramatically. Diversity in the workforce reflects diversity in talents, behaviors, and skills, which gives the company even more advantages.

Companies that are committed to promoting diversity should make sure that the best candidates are given the chance to shine and that innovation is kept alive by combining a variety of viewpoints. Companies that go too far in meeting opaque quotas risk undermining a candidate’s qualifications.
